Virtual DSA Kimberley 2021 http://www.datascienceafrica.org/dsa2021kimberley/ <p>In the tradition of previous Data Science Africa events, a summer school on machine learning and data science will be held prior to the main workshop. This summer school will target graduate students, researchers and professionals working with huge amounts of data or unique datasets.</p> <p>The DSA Kimberley Summer School hosted by Sol Plaatje University, Kimberley will be held virtually. The summer school will also involve end-to-end tutorial sessions from professionals walking the participants through introductory and advanced lectures in data science and machine learning as well as moderate to advanced practical and tutorial sessions where participants will get their hands wet wrangling and munging datasets and applying cutting edge machine learning techniques to derive inference from the data. To benefit from this course participants must have some background in programming particularly programming with Python and machine learning. The registration process will include submission of worked examples in Jupyter notebooks for a data science challenge. We want to improve the gender balance in Data Science in Africa, by empowering women and by encouraging men to consider their role as male allies. We strongly encourage the participation of women from across the continent. We believe that the DSA community of both past and new participants can still benefit greatly from the virtual event.</p> <p>The DSA Kimberley event will consist of oral presentations of data science applications from academia and industry and interactive panel discussions.</p> <p>The theme for the summer school is Women and Data in Africa.
